Community Participation Activities List
SPRING, 2009
Rules:
1.
Events are only worth two hours unless teacher approved
2.
You MAY NOT attend the same TYPE of activity more than once
3.
Most charity events will not count because you are not PARTICIPATING
Acceptable Activities:
- Local Government Meeting (you may attend one of the
following)
- Oceanside City Council (1st,
2nd, and 3rd Wednesday, 6 pm, Pier View 435-3065)
- Vista City Council
(2nd & 4th Tuesday, 5:30 pm, Eucalyptus
726-1340)
- Vista Unified School Board (every
second Thursday, 7:00, 1234 Arcadia, 726-2170)
- Youth in Court Day, March 6th, 1-3 PM at
the Vista Courthouse
- 150 spots available (Sign up in Mr. Leary’s room)
- “Just Fix It” (article attached)
- Identify a problem in your community, find out who
is responsible to Fix It, contact them (letter, email, or phone) to get
it fixed
- If nothing is done, contact Union Tribune (in
article)
- Budget Meetings: Vista Unified
- Every Tuesday and Thursday at the Arcadia Ave.
Office from 4-7 PM
- Attend events hosted by Special Interest Groups
Six-hour alternative: you can complete all 6 hours with one
group or activity if you do more than just attend, meaning you are ACTIVE in the
event. Must be teacher approved. Some examples . . . .
- North Coastal Prevention Youth Coalition (they work on
drug, alcohol, and tobacco issues, 3 spots available)

- Any of the organizations from the two-hour list, such
as United for a Hate Free San Diego, political party activities
- Find one on your own, something that interests you,
then get it teacher approved
